Boys varsity starting year strong
By Camron gabb, junior writer
The Hillcrest Hawks Boys Varsity basketball is off to a roaring start to the 2015 season by starting with a winning record of 4 wins and 1 loss.
After losing to Jamaica in the season opener, the Hawks won four straight games by defeating Thomas Edison, John Adams, Far Rockaway Educational Campus, and August Martin.
On December 4th, 2015 the Hawks played Thomas Edison HS. The Hawks were amazing; they won with almost twice the amount of points Edison had, the score was 62-34. As long as they keep playing like this, scouts may attend their games which can lead to great possibilities for the team. The game against John Adams HS on December 7th was won by Hillcrest with 68 points. The Hawks have only lost one game so far but not by much. Hopefuly they can dust it off and keep practicing on skills and strategy to make up for that loss. Joshua Jordan had 17 rebounds in the win over August Martin.
Practice makes perfect. This year’s Varsity team includes members from Junior Varsity last year. From the tryouts, there were many really talented players that didn’t make the team. The coach was only looking for the best, and the team is composed of strong players.
