The boys handball team is having a dominant season with five wins with zero losses. The team has defeated Thomas Edison twice as well as Forest Hills 3-2, John Bowne 4-1 and Flushing High School 4-1.
The team has already matched its season win total from last year and is ready to make the playoffs. Last year, the team had many new players and took its lumps on to the way to a 5-5 season. Now, the team is playing with the confidence of a playoff-bound team. “Our team has gotten better and their experience shows,” junior Rohit Pollock said of his teammates. Pollock, a junior on the team who is in his second year, has won each of his matches this year.
But the team is not just seasoned veterans. The team is also led by Nomi Khan, a young dynamic freshman talent who has won every match he has played this season.
The boys handball team have been playing their official home games at Edison due to repairs to our home court. Coach Demetrios Baboussis says, “I think we are very fortunate to have four handball courts at our school. Many schools don’t even have one handball court. Yes, our handball courts are not perfect. The ground needs to be resurfaced so there is a more natural bounce to the ball. It would be great if the funds were there to improve our courts. I believe that day is coming.”
“I think we can make the playoffs and champions of the division. Hopefully we can take this title home!” Rohit exclaimed.
