Every country has various problems that they have to deal with, but recently, in America has had quite an odd one. Normal problems, per say, would range from; economy, government, social, and foreign relations. However, no one would ever imagine that clowns, humans with painted faces that show up at kids parties, would be the individuals luring kids in the forest to torture them.
“How did this whole clown hoax started in the first place?”, said by almost every single person who has witnessed the clown stories on the media. Well, this whole debacle started when several students exclaimed that they saw “suspicious character ... dressed in circus clown attire and white face paint, enticing kids to follow him/her into the woods.”, according to CBSnews. Kids these days want to imitate anything they see on TV , whether it is something childish or something really dangerous. The news then reached to social media, and because of that, the clown situation arose. There have been many reports of people seeing clowns all over the world that range from various states to countries such as France.
In the United States, about 48 states have reported clown sightings. Yes, almost the entire country has been terrified of a random clown on the street. Social media, thankfully, has played such an important role in instigating this problem. For instance, on Facebook, many clown accounts have been created, spreading fear by saying that they are gonna visit schools. This made school authorities to start preparing for an invasion of a clown by practicing school lockdowns.
Moving on from the United States and overseas, the European nations have been dealing with clown sightings as well. One, out of the many stories, started with a man wearing a clown mask who stabbed a man in Sweden. The man was 19 years old when this altercation occurred. This is not the only incident that occurred in Sweden, a woman was threatened by two people in clown costumes but no harm was caused, physically. To add on, the day after, a group of men in clown outfits surrounded four ten year olds and threatened them with fake chainsaws.
This “epidemic” has created a new movement called the “Clowns Lives Matter”. “People who work as professional clowns have band together to form Clown Lives Matter, in an effort to prove that clowns are still safe. According to AOL.com, professional clowns have said “they’ve lost business and money as a result of the creepy clown craze.” One clown told AOL, “Everyone took this as a joke, but it’s really becoming serious now, and I just want all these teenagers to know this is not a game anymore.”
The problem has gotten so serious that it has caught the attention of the White House. President Barack Obama explains how authorities should not take this situation lightly but with extreme caution. With festivities coming up in a few weeks, residents everywhere have been on high alert. It will now be hard to tell whether the trick or treater at your door is an innocent 17-year old trying to get candy or a 55- year old man in a clown costume trying to attack you. Who would ever suspect a country to have a clown problem?
