Hillcrest's annual college fair

On Saturday, September 20, 2016, Hillcrest held its very own college fair within school grounds. This has been a recurring event for Hillcrest, with prior college fairs over the past couple years seizing student interest. With this new iteration, students milled around expectantly in the school gym for 2016’s college visit. Over 60 college representatives gathered for the inquiring students, bringing important events to light for interested applicants, such as open houses and visiting days. The college fair also led some colleges into the spotlight, attracting the attention of students who had not heard about them before.
The college fair was organized with balloons in the school’s traditional color purple, with numbers indicating what colleges were where. Students were given sheets with these college numbers, as to make the college search that much easier. Students travelled from booth to booth, gleaning important information while learning more about the college process from helpful pamphlets, cards, and sign-up-sheets for those who want to keep informed about current events in colleges.
Attendants of the college fair were happy with what the college fair held in store for them. “I’m grateful that Hillcrest hosts its own fair because it’s so convenient and gave me no excuse not to go” says Rashell Vasquez, adding, “I was introduced to various colleges that I didn’t know of, some even fell into the category of my interests.” Hillcrest’s Lissette V describes how “the college fair helped me a lot . . . In the college fair I was introduced to many schools with many good programs that helped me.”
The Hillcrest College Fair is always a great opportunity to discover and learn about colleges. The experience really helps, not just with deciding, but with learning about and clarifying details about colleges you are interested in. Students were able to learn about requirements for colleges, information about the colleges themselves, as well as some other information such as financial aid, and campus life.
The event itself was arranged by College Advisor Ms. Nicole Conforti, enabling hundreds of students to access information about colleges, further prepare them for the application process, and help in decision making. For those who’ve never attended one of Hillcrest’s college fairs, the experience is definitely a good idea.
