On the 8th of March, The Academy of Media, Arts & Music held a cultural potluck dedicated to individuals from all across the world.
A Cultural Potluck is a meal party where individuals contributes a traditional dish representing a culture so others can taste different varieties. For three dollars a ticket, students were given the satisfying opportunity to try out the many different foods. Located in the 380 Box, dishes from all across the world were lined up horizontally across the tables for individuals to pick out what they wanted to try. The potluck held food from France, Jamaica, Armenia, Spain, Dominican Republic, and Haiti. Students were able to eat all their servings in rooms 380B and 380C. After the unlimited helpings, students enjoyed playing music and dance in the middle of the box.
The Student Council of Media, Arts and Music hosted this event to offer students of Hillcrest an occasion to come together to enjoy a plate of food. They thought it would be extra special to invite students from the entire school to partake in this event. Since this potluck was created by students for students’ enjoyment, there were no limit to the number of plates.
Students who volunteered to donate food to this event were thrilled for the opportunity to showcase their own cultural eatings for people to try. Isela Larreinaga, our very own Editor in Chief of The Highlighter, was ecstatic to share a plate of her pastelitos so the many students who attended could enjoy. She said, “Even though I did not get to eat the pastelitos my mom made for this event, it was nice that everyone else got to try them. They ran out, so I know that they were really good”. Alongside this very tasty pasty among so many, other dishes were also running out very quickly, proving the dishes were highly satisfying.
The event raised funds to be used for future events designed for students’ enjoyment and other worthy causes. The Student Council hopes to create more events that offer Hillcrest students a chance to get together socially in unity, as a family. If you were unable to attend the the Cultural Potluck, be sure to participate in the Council’s future endeavors, by students for students.
