Girls Gymnastics team hopes to rise above competition

The Hillcrest Gymnastics team kicked off their annual Winter season with an impressive win against Campus Magnet at their first tri-meet of the season.
The girls put immense energy and effort in since the start of practice, which definitely paid off with scores worth boasting about. Captain Isabelle Erie scored a remarkable 6.35 on her floor routine, Ilyce Vonsiebenhoven dominated beam with a 6.00, as well as bars with a 4.80.
The team is very proud of their progress so far even after the loss and absence of many valued and experienced gymnasts from last year. ¨Our team´s goal is to be good enough to compete with great gymnastics programs like Campus Magnet, LIC, and Cardozo, whom are notoriously known for their elite gymnastics teams,” says Jamile Michala, one of the beam starters.
Nevertheless, they are still strong as ever and agree that with practice and devotion, they will improve their technique and be able to once again reach their pinnacles of last year. Sophomore Minchala states that what she loves the most about this group of girls is how they react to the sport of Gymnastics overall. ¨They support and encourage each other physically and mentally, know how to take criticism, and understand that there will always be someone better than you, you just have to adopt their ideas and learn from them rather than resorting to jealousy and anger. This team is much more than just a team. It is a family, unified and powerful. Unity is strength, and when there is teamwork and collaboration, wonderful things can be achieved.¨
The girls play against Cardozo on Friday December 18th at Cardozo´s home gym, Come support our gymnasts and see the game! We are so proud of our girls and wish them the best for their upcoming season.
