Game of thrones season 6 predictions!

“The man who passes the sentence should swing the sword”. Two months ago, the Game of Thrones fandom reared its head in excitement when HBO released a teaser breakdown of the hall of faces. Now, in the single digit countdown to the very awaited season 6, we sit ontop of 3 different trailers, various teasers, and hours of theories on every social media platform in existence. Here at the highlighter our most avid Game of Thrones fans got together and came up with 5 theories that we believe will definitely take place in the 10 hours of season 6.
#1 Let them have pie! Frey pie!
For all of those Game of Thrones fans that jumped out of their seats when Lord Walder Frey ordered the murder of Robb Stark’s army in ‘The Rains of Castamere’ in season 3, this is going to be your fist in the air moment. Lord Walder Frey is seen hosting the Lannister army in the same hall where the king in the North met his fateful end. We at the highlighter not only see this as a flashback to the Red Wedding, but as the opportunity for the universe to balance itself out, and to see something very bad happen to the Frey family. All we can say is their goose is well and truly cooked.
#2 Sansa Stark will be no more
After 5 seasons of Game of Thrones, fans are no longer naive about characters they love. Everyone is playing the game of thrones, and in this game you win or you die. Unfortunately for Sansa fans, this is her turn to lose the game. With her new story arch being geared towards the remembrance of the North and her revenge against the Boltons, one would assume that she will prevail after facing trials and tribulations since she left Winterfell. This is not the case for season 6. In a perfect world, Sansa will retake Winterfell, have some revenge on Roose and Ramsay Bolton, and rule the North. In a Game of Thrones world, Sansa will be killed by Ramsay Bolton as she attempts to retake her home in the name of her family and her honor, because that is just the type of thing George R.R Martin, D. B Weiss and David Benioff do for their fans, tear their hearts out.
#3 The Red Woman
All across the show we have been introduced to priests and priestesses that serve R’hllor, the lord of light, and are nicknamed the Red Men and Women. Fortunately this is not the only example of red people! The Game of Thrones trailers feature a scene that contains: a tower, and various soldiers wearing Stark and Targaryen armor. This has been popularly accepted as a flashback to the ‘Tower of Joy’ scene, where Eddard Stark fights his way past kingsguard men to rescue his sister, Lyanna Stark, from the clutches of Rhaegar Targaryen in Robert’s rebellion. This scene is key to the show due to the fact that it feeds into one of the most important theories of Game of Thrones, R (Rhaegar) + L(Lyanna) = J(Jon). If confirmed, we will see Lyanna Stark laying in a bed of her own blood, hence Red Woman, asking her brother Ned to promise he will take care of her son as if he was her own. Confirming both the fidelity of Eddard to his wife Catelyn Stark, and the existence of a second living Targaryen who can take the throne if given a chance.
#4 Tyrion will unleash fire upon Meereen
“That’s what I do. I drink and I know things”. Despite being a Lannister, we can’t help but love Tyrion. After a very interesting journey to Meereen, Tyrion found himself at the service, and mercy, of our favorite Khaleesi turned Queen, Daenerys, who is now in a very tight spot with the Dothraki who surrounded her in the closing scene of season 5. Now, without a queen, the small council that would normally advise her will now be in charge of a turbulent city with powerful families desperate to regain control. However, we have the little lion to the rescue. With a very clever and witty line dictating that “dragons do not do well in captivity”, Tyrion gives us hope that not only will we see Rhaegal and Viserion, Daenerys’ other dragons, but we will see them unleash fire and destruction on the harpies who dare challenge the queen’s rule.
#1 Back and Better than ever
“The only way to be resurrected is to die first”. After very heated discussions and storyboard drawings, the highlighter staff settled on the most important and looked for theory of this season, Jon Snow will be back and better than ever. We have come to the conclusion that Melisandre, the red priestess who followed Stannis Baratheon to hell and back, stayed at castle black for a very good reason. Our best estimate is that, in order to allow other characters to blossom into their story arcs, he will be revived in one way or another in between episode 3-4. With his night’s watch oath becoming useless at the moment of this death, and the possibility of R + L = J being confirmed, Jon will add key moments to this seasons that will contribute to the ultimate battle for the dawn, and we can’t wait to see it.
With a few days to go until the first episode of this new season is released, we can’t help but fidget in our seats and revisit our theories until they are confirmed by what promises to be the best season thus far. Don’t forget to tune in to HBO on Sunday, April the 24th to confirm ours and your own theories of the show that captured our hearts and made sure to scar them emotionally for years to come.
