AMAM WELCOMES MS.BOGHOSIAN
Another new year of school means another massive change with teachers, students, and parents. Students are moving up a grade, teachers are being shifted around, and much more. This year, there was a change of directorship in the SLC of Media, Arts, and Music. Mr. Panepinto has taken a position of Assistant Principal in Martin Van Buren leaving us in questioning of who will be the new director. Without a doubt, the new director came out to be Ms. Boghosian, one of the very few Original Teachers in Media, Arts, and Music.
Ms. Boghosian was here to witness the school splitting up into small learning communities 10 years ago. She witnessed the growth of Hillcrest and how ideas were brought to the table and made into a reality. Before accepting this position, she was a teacher for many years, precisely twenty-three. She is mainly known for teaching Spanish courses for over a hundred plus students. She mentioned that, “As a teacher, I feel that I am --I have a lot of lessons to write, you know-- lessons to impart on my students so they can learn, then I have to follow up on all of that”. Teaching was an important position because she was in charge of many student’s grades. The planning for the next day and furthermore was a lot on her plate.
This massive change exclusively showcases how much Ms. Boghosian can handle in her twenty six years of being in the education system. As someone who has been teaching high school education for twenty-three years, she mentions that Hillcrest High School has "evolved enormously from where it used to be". Even being highly notable for excellent efforts within our building, Boghosian claims that she is "always a learner, doesn’t matter how many years I worked I will always continue to learn."
Accepting the role of being director was a huge step for Ms. Boghosian. It was a huge sacrifice regarding teaching because she would not be able to teach all her classes that she had already. It was a sacrifice of giving up some classes to give her more time for directorship duties and needs. As a director now, she’s even more student involved, she checks on them if they are cutting, missing too much school, have personal problems and much more. The biggest time consuming job is “when [she is] reaching out for students who are cutting and missing classes and [she is] calling, writing letters, and contacting other administrators in charge, that is very time consuming and very important.” To add on, she is usually running around the school finding teachers to speak to, helping students out, and at more meetings than before.
As Boghosian progresses her massive change from teacher to director, she has high hopes for her students within the SLC. With a huge smile, she is "trying to be very ambitious by hoping for 100% graduation rates". Alongside with this, she would like to build up on the music track by adding more focused courses, as well as do whatever it takes to promote the SLC’s; Model United Nations, the Journalism class and the film studies class. With such goals in mind, it is no doubt that she will definitely bring this SLC to a much higher place in the future.
Ms.DeJean, the student counselor for Media, Arts, and Music, notes the precision and excellence in Ms.Boghosian. She states that she is "very happy to be working with Ms. Boghosian. Ms. Boghosian has been with Humanities since it started 10 years ago. She is dedicated to our community and gives 1000% of her time and efforts to make our community a success." It is with no doubt that Ms.Boghosian will give our SLC nothing but the very best.
As she moves on further into this devouring position she now holds in her hands, she asks students to "believe in themselves. Don’t worry about those things you cannot do, focus on what you are able to do and build on them. Believe in yourself and really pursue your dreams because nothing's impossible if you really want to reach it." Boghosian is now a primary example of one who is noted for her high achievements, and after many years of “setbacks in [her life], and triumph because of all [her]fears and shyness", she pushed so far that doors had opened, and history was made within the SLC. Hillcrest community wishes you the very best of luck and great honor, Ms.Boghosian!
