In life, women are often denied to have the ability to rule. For example, in the 8th century, women could not own property. They could not have their children after divorce and they could not work. However, in the poem “The Iliad” by Homer, women had strong characters and strong roles.
In the poem, there was a war between the Greeks and the Trojans because of a woman called Helen. Helen was the wife of Menelaus who was stolen by Paris. Because of this in incident, “The Trojan War” happened. We also see that some of the women were goddesses and they had the power to make things happen. For example, in the battle, Athena gave a strong warrior named Diomedes the power to see the gods and goddess who were disguised as humans. This shows that the women had the power to make things happen. In a different part of the poem the mighty Zeus, the god of all gods ordered all of the gods and goddess not to participate in a war of the mortals and if they participate, they would be punished. But Athena and Zeus’s wife, Hera, tried to ignore the mighty Zeus although they knew that they would be punished. This showed that these women were brave and they played a very strong role in the poem.
Sometimes women also play very important roles in real life. For example, Hillary Clinton played a very important political role for U.S. She played a leading role in advocating the creation of Children’s Health Insurance program, the Adoption and Safe Families Act, and the foster care Independence Act. She also reformed the education system in Arkansas. She also served two terms as a U.S senator. All of these examples show how women can play a very important role in real life too.
In conclusion, I want to say that women are often denied by society. But they can play a very important role in society if they get a chance. I believe if women start to receive equal rights then they will be able to play a very important role in society.
